The latest thing since peer partners…..

Good day and welcome to my latest blog… this one opens my day up to the world (and I’m relying on you to care enough to monitor it). So here it is… starting next Thursday, August 7th, 2008 this site will become my accountability to the world. I have sent this link to many of you already, and if you received it, it means that I have a great deal of respect for you and don’t want to let you down. Everyday you will see 4 posts on this blog. The first will be “Good Morning, I’m going to work out” (occasional pictures provided to show progress)  this should always fall between 6:15 and 6:30. The next entry will be my Aha’s from role playing and a mini book report on the 30 minutes of reading I will do every morning. Third you will have an entry verifying that I did indeed have 2 appointments that day. Finally it will be “Today’s Recap (contacts, calls, emails, hand-written notes), any projects or consulting and trainings. Also tomorrow’s To-Do’s…

Lead generation should take place Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri. Tuesday mornings are meant for meetings. These  4 entries will hold true every day Mon-Fri unless I am on vacation or away on business. The focus is on recruiting, increasing agent productivity, and building culture. If my daily recaps don’t reflect this was my focus please comment and don’t hold back. From now through Wednesday I am getting all of the “stuff” out of the way that is toxic and holds me back. I suppose I should give some background on why I am doing this…..

Has anyone ever tried a diet and exercise program, worked hard for the first month then you hop on the scale and much to your surprise you gained a pound? What do you do at that point? Quit or push harder? This is how I feel about the last 14 months I have spent as Team Leader with Keller Williams Realty. I have worked so hard in this role to recruit, and create the best real estate office imaginable. I stood on that scale last month and realized that as hard as I have worked we gained a pound. Don’t get me wrong we are doing good! We are one of the top 3 offices in our region, our agent mix is much stronger, we have a great culture, however it still is not where I pictured us. I believe it was Jim Collins who wrote “Good is the enemy of great!” and that truly is the case.

In the next 6 months I intend to blow the doors off by making “Slight Edge” type decisions every day. My DISC profile is a High “D”, High “I” which means my natural style is a little fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants. The thing is your DISC profile is not an excuse or a crutch, it is to help you understand what systems you need to modify your behavior and achieve peak performance. It’s easy to order that salad on any given day, but so very difficult to order it EVERY given day. This is why I need your help, come back to my blogoften, leave a supporting comment and be hard on me when I fall. With your support I will achieve my potential, and would gladly help all of you do the same.

Sincerely,

Brett Boettge

THIS IS AN EDIT AS OF 12/29/2008 I BELIEVE IN THIS JOURNEY IT IS IMPORTANT TO SEE THE EVOLUTION OF THE BLOG WHICH IS WHY I DID NOT DELETE THE ABOVE.
Those that have truly followed this blog saw an evolution from the original 4 posts per day, down to 3, then 2, then 1. The posts for 2009 are going to be very much mind-set based….. and starting with a 2 post per day minimum. I will open this blog up to more of how I feel throughout my days journey. The morning will start witha gratitude entry, then my day ends with a “closing argument”. That “closing argument” will share a story of every single day and how I am pushing myself at the first urge of letting up. This is my roadblock, my issue of appt. v.s. join, the reason massive success escaped me in 2008 and after deep thought the one single piece of my life that if improved, will enhance EVERY aspect of my life.
So where does intensity show up? I’ll share withyou what I think…. It’s not backing down when you know what is right, It’s passionately expressing your opinion regardless of mixed company, it’s tenacity…on a deeper level, it’s a healthy “fierce” conversation with a loved one, its looking deep into someone’s eyes because you care, it’s asking the questions nobody else will, it’s attacking that subject most avoid, it’s honestly answering the question “What are you pretending not to know?” it’s allowing yourself to feel so passionately about something you contemplate the impossible, its pushing those around you to see their ultimate potential, its making the tough calls without hesitation.
What is the cancer that created my personal, unconscious indifference in the face of intensity? There was no defining moment that led to a lack of intensity, it is more of a compilation of experiences. My parents divorce? To this day I still claim that had no effect on me at thirteen. Now my first marriage (not tipping my hand to the possibility of a second) had more of an effect, not pinpointing the relationship itself, but the time period. Somewhere between 1999 and 2004 I lost something that came natural, emotion. My strong strength of logic and lack of emotion has brought me to where I am today and I am grateful, that same combination has held me back from the next level. It has always been said that I have a great energy. Only in the last week did I realize the difference between energy and intensity. Energy is just that, my mood is positive, I’m quite animated and I never seem to tire throughout the day. I am a motivator. Intensity is focused energy, energy that commands respect and walks that line, gushing with passion that inspires (long term), not motivates (short term). Intensity is fueled by emotion and I’m thankful for Jody and Brooklynne, both have helped in my journey to repair what I thought was irreparably broken.
I’m not a huge sports fan, yet here is a quote.. “let’s leave it all out on the field” thanks for all of your support and I appreciate your interest in following a “twenty something” executive on a pursuit of personal excellence.
Sincerely,
Brett Boettge
