The latest thing since peer partners…..
Good day and welcome to my latest blog… this one opens my day up to the world (and I’m relying on you to care enough to monitor it). So here it is… starting next Thursday, August 7th, 2008 this site will become my accountability to the world. I have sent this link to many of you already, and if you received it, it means that I have a great deal of respect for you and don’t want to let you down. Everyday you will see 4 posts on this blog. The first will be “Good Morning, I’m going to work out” (occasional pictures provided to show progress) this should always fall between 6:15 and 6:30. The next entry will be my Aha’s from role playing and a mini book report on the 30 minutes of reading I will do every morning. Third you will have an entry verifying that I did indeed have 2 appointments that day. Finally it will be “Today’s Recap (contacts, calls, emails, hand-written notes), any projects or consulting and trainings. Also tomorrow’s To-Do’s…
Lead generation should take place Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri. Tuesday mornings are meant for meetings. These 4 entries will hold true every day Mon-Fri unless I am on vacation or away on business. The focus is on recruiting, increasing agent productivity, and building culture. If my daily recaps don’t reflect this was my focus please comment and don’t hold back. From now through Wednesday I am getting all of the “stuff” out of the way that is toxic and holds me back. I suppose I should give some background on why I am doing this…..
Has anyone ever tried a diet and exercise program, worked hard for the first month then you hop on the scale and much to your surprise you gained a pound? What do you do at that point? Quit or push harder? This is how I feel about the last 14 months I have spent as Team Leader with Keller Williams Realty. I have worked so hard in this role to recruit, and create the best real estate office imaginable. I stood on that scale last month and realized that as hard as I have worked we gained a pound. Don’t get me wrong we are doing good! We are one of the top 3 offices in our region, our agent mix is much stronger, we have a great culture, however it still is not where I pictured us. I believe it was Jim Collins who wrote “Good is the enemy of great!” and that truly is the case.
In the next 6 months I intend to blow the doors off by making “Slight Edge” type decisions every day. My DISC profile is a High “D”, High “I” which means my natural style is a little fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants. The thing is your DISC profile is not an excuse or a crutch, it is to help you understand what systems you need to modify your behavior and achieve peak performance. It’s easy to order that salad on any given day, but so very difficult to order it EVERY given day. This is why I need your help, come back to my blog often, leave a supporting comment and be hard on me when I fall. With your support I will achieve my potential, and would gladly help all of you do the same.
Sincerely,
Brett Boettge
KWTL-Madison Crossroads

You go Brett! I’ll be watching your blog, and I know you won’t disappoint. Discipline is just remembering what you want! I look forward to watching your progress!

This is very impressive. I want to congratulate you on your taking the lead on your accountability. I will have my Team Leader review this as well and am hopeful she will want to partner with you.
Brett,
WOW! Congratulations, you just took a step off of a cliff. Accountability to the world. I will check in and see how you are doing. I am finding the blogging itself takes a lot of time and will watch to see how you are doing it.
Nice job Brett. I like your idea. I do want to share that I recently read a book (short read I promise) that has really changed my mindset and maybe you’ll enjoy it as well. GO FOR NO. You can go to GOFORNO.com to order it. It came in a few days and I’m actually going to start training on it in my market center.)
Best of luck.
Good luck Brett! See the “Energy Plan” on page 308 of the MREA book and win the day by 11:00 a.m.
I am at 18 months as a Team Leader and I am a witness to the same issues ! I love the fact that you are going from E-P. The Focus will take you from Good to Great! I will check in with your blog and I will look for you at Mega Leadership! You have my support ! Think Big, Aim High, Act bold.
Wow! Way to go, but I didn’t know people were awake at 6:15am…ouch!
Your efforts and drive have improved the accountability of the entire market center at Crossroads. I am commited to helping you meet your individual goals. Thanks for setting the tempo, but then again, strong team leaders, do lead by example.
The pain of discipline is far better than the pain of regret.
THE POWER OF PURPOSE – Brett, what is your BIG WHY?
The obstacles you encounter rarely have a coherent purpose of their own. They are just there, inconvenient and troublesome to be sure, but with nothing of substance to sustain them.
You, on the other hand, have the extreme advantage of being able to choose and follow a definite purpose. By so doing, instead of randomly scattering your energy and efforts, you can sharply focus and powerfully concentrate all that energy, all those efforts in a consistent direction.
Soft, gentle raindrops falling over a wide area will always yield to the contours and obstructions of the landscape. Yet when those tiny drops of water are concentrated into a mighty river, they have the power to cut through any obstruction.
In the same way, when your thoughts, feelings and actions are centered around a clear and consistent purpose, nothing can hold you back. The random and disjointed exertions of circumstance are no match for a living and unwavering purpose.
The problems, the frustrations, the challenges and the difficult situations come and go. A steadfast, meaningful purpose will carry you successfully through them all.
Give your life a decided advantage over all the burdensome circumstances you encounter. Live each moment in the service of the highest and most positive purpose you can imagine.
– Ralph Marston
So what is your BIG WHY? Do you know your purpose?
Very brave move Brett! You have really put yourself out there for the ultimate in accountability. By the way, you must be a master at time management! Great way to lead by example — way to go!
Brett,
This is HUGE! You will have a great story to tell sometime down the road. This takes stepping “out of the box” to a new level (like on steriods!).
You have my support in any way I can help you. I hope to have the honor of meeting you in person soon!!
Good for you. I can tell you from personal experience that the blogging does so much for your mind set and attitude. You can visit mine at http://www.BetterCallBeth.com …let’s stay in touch!
This is awesome SuperBRETT! You’ve uncovered an undeniable truth:
If we all want to succeed at the highest level- our commitment needs to match our goals… if it doesn’t- why bother making the commitment in the first place? This is big time buddy! You continually make us better every day.
You inspire… and for the record- I will check this daily. : )

Great first move. Can’t wait to see the daily updates as you progress in this as well as the increases in your productivity! What a great example this will set for your agents who are looking for that “magic bullet” that will make their real estate practices successful. Here’s the truth, the magic bullet is consistant lead generation and treating your day with such structure that you accomplish all those tasks that you know need to be done to move yourself and your business forward.
Can’t wait to see the result!
Go Brett, Go! I am so proud of you for holding yourself accountable! What an awesome idea! I cannot wait to see your sucess!

Brett……..AKA SUPERSTAR! WOW! This is amazing! You are one rockin TL! I will hold you accountable! We’d love for you to join us again on the Friday calls! We miss you! You have set the bar high for all the rest of us TL’s! It’s very easy to fall into a little bit of a rut at times and accountability is what we all need. Page 301 in the MREA, “Accountability is the relationship of choice for CHAMPIONS.” And that’s what you are! Can’t wait to see the results. YOU ROCK!

Brett–I told my coaching clients today about your “Ultimate Accountability” experiment and they LOVED it! You really are “walking the walk” and make us all proud.
As you’re moving through your next few days, weeks, and months of your experiment, keep this in mind:
What you don’t do can be a destructive force. –Eleanor Roosevelt
Thank you Brett for being Madison Crossroads TL. We are so very fortuate to have someone as dedicated and knowledgable as you. If one is not accountable to ones self, how can others count on them to lead? You have certainly demonstrated your dedication and committment to all of us and this market center.
Bret, I am proud of you for such a huge challenge. It is not easy to be a Team Leader. You push your agents to do the same thing you should be doing and some time we fall short of our own goals. I really think you doing this and putting yourself out there will help so many others. I am encouraged by your task and I look forward to your success and the success it will bring to others including myself. I look forward to checking on you often.
I am so incredibly proud of you Brett. I look forward to reading your daily blogs and supporting you along the way to achieve all of your goals. Inspiring others to be the best they can be is not an easy task but you continue to make it happen!
Hi Brett-
